Background: The Ohio Lottery contracts to broadcast Cash Explosion and the evening drawings through a competitive bidding process initiated and completed by our media partner, Marcus-Thomas LLC. The current contracts are one-year contracts with one-year renewal options. All contracts were due to expire on June 30, 2011 and had to be rebid.

Our new broadcast partners won the contracts in their respective markets. Currently, there are 10 contracts representing various viewing areas in the state. You can see the list for the entire state at

The first evening drawing airs on the new broadcast partner stations on Friday, July 1, 2011. The first Classic Lotto drawing will be viewable on on Saturday, July 2, 2011. The first Cash Explosion show airs on the new broadcast partner stations on Saturday, July 2, 2011.

Obviously, viewers in Cleveland, Toledo and Dayton will clicking over to new stations. The rest of the state is unaffected. And Classic Lotto players can now enjoy the evening drawings at their convenience on their computers.

What’s the benefit? In some of our media markets, the entire broadcast budget for that region is tied up in televising the drawings and game show. These changes reduce those broadcast commitments by more than $600,000. It means we can distribute TV advertising more evenly throughout the state that would have otherwise cost us more money.

So how does this save us money? We have areas in the state where all of our TV advertising dollars are committed to one carrier station. Our new partnerships will free up dollars that will allow us to deliver messages to a wider TV audience, employing more network and cable programming.

It adds up to using broadcast dollars more efficiently while continuing to deliver Lottery information, entertainment and fun, along with millions of winners every month.
