People always dream about what it would be like to receive a large sum of cash, but have you ever thought about what it’s like to give it away? The Ohio Lottery has winners cashing in their tickets every day, so while you might think it gets old for the employees, it doesn’t!
The employees at the Ohio Lottery’s regional office in Cincinnati recently got to surprise Top Prize Drawing winner Lorraine Means with a check for $500,000! They did a lot of leg work tracking her down and getting her into the office without letting on that she was the winner.
Regional manager Kent “Chip” Taylor did the honors. He walked Lorraine and her two daughters to a conference room where she thought she was filling out final paperwork before the TPD drawing. Chip left the room briefly while Lorraine filled out some forms, and when he came back he put the check face down on the table in front of her. “We made small talk about Christmas, and I asked her if she was ready,” Chip said. That’s when he told Lorraine that he thought he could help make her Christmas better. As she looked at him somewhat puzzled by his statement, he flipped the check over revealing that she had won the $500,000 Top Prize Drawing.
The whole room erupted into applause and laughter.
“It was one of the best feelings I’ve had in the 16 years I’ve been here, it was truly better than getting a gift from anybody. It was really neat to do that for her!” Chip continued. “It made her day, and I hope it made her year.”
Lorraine won her top prize on the Ohio Lottery’s Holiday Surprise instant game. She won $5,500 when she bought the ticket over a year ago. She plans to use her winnings to pay off some bills, but her family didn’t get left out. She treated them to a celebration dinner!
