Supporting Education, Setting Records

Did you know that 100 percent of Ohio Lottery profits are used to help support K through 12 education in Ohio? While it only accounts for roughly 4 percent of total education funding in the state, it’s a piece of the pie that the Ohio Lottery continues to build.

December’s transfer to education was a record monthly transfer! The Ohio Lottery transfered $74.4 million to the Lottery Profits Education Fund (LPEF).

The Ohio Lottery transfered $738.8 million to the LPEF during the fiscal year ending June 30, 2011. It was the second highest transfer to education in the Lottery’s history.

This money is distributed by the Ohio Department of Education based upon appropriations made by the General Assembly. The Ohio Lottery provides roughly 4 percent of the funding needed for school operations statewide.  The majority of public school funding is generated by federal, state and local taxes.
