The day typically started with an early morning meeting in which the cars used would be prepared for the undercover operation with special cameras and fans (to keep the cameras from shorting out). Getting the cars set, going over the schedule and prepping the investigators and their equipment usually took about an hour. Two producers from Dateline, along with a cameraman and soundman, came during that first round of visits to retailers in and around Cleveland and Columbus. They were long days, with a visit to more than ten stores a day during that first round of visits. On that first day in Cleveland, out of 11 retailer visits, investigators had one ticket stolen in a single retailer location.
