ASHTABULA, OH – Promotion and education are the tools Mahmud Farah uses to promote his lottery business. Located at 515 ½ Center Street in Ashtabula, he’s been selling Lottery over 17 years. The Ohio Lottery is pleased to recognize B B’s Mini Mart as Retailer-of-the-Week for the week of January 16, 2017.
Though he’s been selling Lottery for over a decade, Farah does not take anything for granted. He says promotion and education are the tools that he would recommend to a new and upcoming retailer. He describes B B’s Minimart as a clean and organized business with friendly service and educated employees.
Farah attributes the success of his business to keeping customers informed of new games, having a dedicated lottery play area and posting advertisements inside and outside the store. A family owned and operated business, Farah says that they built the business by making sure they continued to promote and advertise.
“I personally make sure each employee is fully trained on each game the lottery provides and I make sure my customers are comfortable playing the games,” he said, “When a customer wins, I make sure that other customers know about the wins, which results in higher sales.”
Farah says retailers should always have new games out, ask for the sale and try different and new ways to increase sales. The business carries 53 instant games and their average sales for on-line and instants are $11,000.
B B’s Mini Mart will be recognized on Cash Explosion®, the Ohio Lottery’s TV game show, on January 21. Ashtabula County residents can tune into Cash Explosion® on WFMJ NBC Channel 21 in Youngstown. The Cash Explosion show is carried on 13 stations across the state every Saturday at 7:30 p.m.
