Each month the Ohio Lottery likes to recognize the hard-working and exceptional teachers and students throughout Ohio. Here are our winners for the month of February.
Kevin Hall is our first February Academic All Star. He is a senior at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. Teacher Sean Brennan says that Kevin is “Always even-keeled, patient, and approachable, he will serve as an asset to any program or employer. He works well on his own and is certainly a team player when necessary.”
Emily Pleva, is a high-achieving 3rd grade student at AJ Jordak Elementary. She has earned a perfect 4.0 GPA, and recently received the Cleveland Cavaliers Straight A All-Star Student Award.
Ava Martinez, is a fourth grade student at Paulding Elementary. “Ava is a very wonderful and respectful student. She participates every day in class. She works well with all students. Ava has a bright smile on her face every day,” says teacher Carrie DiVincenzo.
Addy Stevens, is an Academic All Star from Milton-Union Middle School. Addy is described as a wonderful student and a pleasure to have in class. She is known to come to school smiling.
Kenyona Bell is a stand out tenth grade student at Western Hills High School. She is a Ohio State Young Scholar and a member of the National Honor Society. Kenyona is helpful in the classroom and comes with a positive attitude every day.
Sonja Teal, is an Academic All Star from Teays Valley West Middle School. Teal was a new student this year who fit right into the school environment. She is known as a hard worker and a student with a very positive attitude. She stays on task and comes prepared to class.
Hannah Felger is a fifth grade honor roll student at East Palestine Middle School. She works hard in the classroom and enjoys being a member of the Science Club and a part of the Leader of the Pack group.
Becky Puls is a second grade teacher at Fort Miami Elementary and a recipient of the Teacher of the Month award. She places an emphasis on “social-emotional learning” and positive behavior intervention. Becky is described as caring and able to make her students feel comfortable in her classroom.
Tracy Harris is a third grade teacher at Mark Twain Elementary. “Mrs. Harris is one of those rare teachers who can connect with any student. She helps her students to work on academics, social skills and most notably their character,” says Amber Cristofaro, PTA Community Outreach Coordinator.
Jessica Ritz is a kindergarten teacher at Loveland Early Childhood. Parent Jennifer Shaftel says, “Jessica Ritz is most deserving of the title Teacher of the Month. Her unparalleled efforts and ardent dedication to creating educated, secure, well-rounded students is truly remarkable and something I’m humbled to witness.”
Shannon Mayes teaches sixth grade language arts at Gallia Academy Middle School located in Gallia County. Mayes is a teacher who strives to reach beyond the expectations and encourages students through his lessons and creativity. He reaches across all backgrounds and connects students to their learning.
February Teacher of the Month Will Franklin teaches physical education, fitness for life, weight training and health education at East Palestine Middle School. He also coaches football and basketball. The district is very fortunate to have a teacher with such dedication and service to the school and community.
